Modern community is getting more complicated and as a result reading skills are more important than ever. Each student needs to learn different ways to read to find his/her method of reading and understanding different academic texts. It is also important that the student can enjoy reading. Even though the student knows how to read, he/she does not necessarily have the reading comprehension needed for the studies. Students need to be able to prepare for challenges in the future. They need to be able to reason, analyse different texts and of course to communicate with each other. The goal of the project is to encourage reading among students and that each student has the capacity to learn throughout life. But our goal is not only the reading of academic text. It is also important to develop reading skills for enjoyment. The uniqueness of our project is that instead of focusing on the students with poor reading skills, all students are involved in an extensive interdisciplinary reading skills program, built to improve their reading comprehension in all fields, academic fields, reading for enjoyment and lifelong learning. Moreover, by improving the students´ reading competences, we will subsequently consolidate the modern trends in education that encourage e-information. We feel that improved reading skills in the subjects in all the curricula will benefit all students both in the school and in life. To maximize the final outcome of this project a group of twelve teachers will take part in courses in Spain and England and visit school in Denmark. These teachers will lead the literacy project in the school and guarantee the implementation of it in all subjects.
