FINISHED
Nowadays, education's main purpose is to train competent students to be able to succeed in the future. In this sense, both teachers and schools have a responsibility to adapt our curriculum to the times and strive for innovative education, willing to change and aware of the importance of internationalization. Being able to show our European educational systems to our students and showcase cultural, and social aspects of our neighbours does nothing but enrich ideas and train humans in diversity, tolerance and equality."The improvement of skills in the bilingual classroom" is a project created by the need for improvement in Colegio Internacional Eurovillas. Over the recent years, the school has gradually been introducing changes in its teaching model: the implementation of the bilingual program BEDA (Bilingual English Development & Assessment, 2008); the implementation of the bilingual programme of Comunidad de Madrid (2013); one ICT (information and communication technology) project that is still in development; the comprehensive review of the school plan. Therefore, we propose some objectives of improvement and implementation in our curriculum: 1) language proficiency; 2) digital competence; 3) soft skills (learning to learn, social and civic awareness and cultural expression and sense of initiative and entrepreneurship). Our project focuses on the development of these skills in the bilingual classroom, although the long-term goal is the implementation of this model in all the departments.Direct participants in the project will be 10 English teachers and those teaching bilingual subjects in bilingual primary, non-bilingual primary and secondary. The aim for these teachers is that students receive an education of quality that allows them to develop bilingual skills in the classroom and ensure a successful model of bilingual project to be implemented in the higher grades of primary and secondary. The profile of the participants must be, therefore, a teacher showing interest in learning and who believes in an innovative and qualitative educational model. With this project we intend to take a big step from a traditional model to a more modern, dynamic, student-centered and adapted to the times methodology. Teachers involved in the project are English teachers, CLIL teachers(Content and Language Integrated Learning) or teachers who could teach these areas in the future. On the other hand, the activities to be carried out include two training courses (a course of development of soft skills and a course of ICT in the classroom); a "Job Shadowing " in a German school with a long and successful career in bilingual programmes; two eTwinning projects: one to work in depth CLIL materials development and the other to work on evaluation through ePortfolios (electronic portfolios). To do this, we intend to work through inclusive and innovative methodology in which the student is the actor and the teacher the facilitator. Our project will be based largely on cooperative learning, where students learn to develop skills for their future. With this project we hope to implement a qualitative bilingual programme in order to have competent, prepared and motivated students. The expected impact will affect students, teachers, families and the educational community in general: there will be a development in the skills of students and teachers who work on achieving the targets for improvement in our bilingual programme and the school will be part of a process of internationalization. Although the benefits of the project are innumerable, we can find, among others, satisfaction and motivation of students and teachers; the security offered by having a qualitative curriculum; the opportunity offered by working with international partners. All in all, this project will be an essential tool for the change we need in our school. Thanks to the actions to be carried out, the school will try to improve their results through an innovative methodological model. The implementation of this model will be a benchmark for continuous work and recycling in education, issues that are so necessary nowadays.
