The new European disability strategy aims at improving social inclusion, well-being and full exercise of rights of people with disabilities through national and European complementary actions. Nevertheless, outdated cultural models and behaviours toward people with severe disabilities still exist. It is, therefore, urgent to design new pedagogical patterns in order to adequately reply to the expectations of professionals working in educational services for people with disabilities. The INV project is intended to focus on services addressed to people with severe Down syndrome, offering answers to the need of more proper educational processes and to poor effectiveness of in-service training . It proposes and tests one pedagogical model and one training model for professionals, commensurate between them and innovative both for the methodological approach and for the results they can achieve: promotion of the appreciative intelligence, change of attitude toward the severe DS and the role played by the professional.81 professionals, working in residential services, day centres and educational (extra school) services, will be involved in:focus groups for the detection of weak points in their job;training test where they will start up empowerment paths, extension of the potential of the person with severe DS, in order to increase his/her skills to reach specific objectives and to reduce dependence and social asymmetry to a minimum. The project foresees 5 transnational events, 4 thematic workshops, one website with a discussion and consultancy forum, some products which will facilitate dissemination and multiplication of the results with a very large impact even after the end of the project, the launch of recommendations to decision makers on the promotion of the citizenship right for all.
