Kronik Ostrüktif Akciğer Hastalığında Bakım Uygulamalarının AB Düzeyinde Öğrenilmesi’
Start date: Oct 6, 2014, End date: Aug 6, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Name of Project: “Learning of Care Applications in the Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease at EU Level.” The Project contains 45 participating students from department of nursing of Anatolian Vocational School of Health (AVSH), with 6 companion teachers all expert in their fields. The chronic obstructive lung disease (copd) is a serious disease which is progressive, not completely curable, a cause of death if not treated, leading to labour force and economic losses in EU and in our country, and as much fatal as heart attack. According to the work of BOLD-Turkey and National Disease Burden carried out in 2010, copd ranks third after heart and cerebrovascular diseases and claims the lives of fithy-thousand people. Nearly 4 to 5 million people suffer from copd in Turkey. If the rates of smoking continue at this level, the epidemic copd will increasingly grow. Because the sufferers are not aware of their illness at early stages, an increase in complaints will only be realised at late stages.Only 25% of copd sufferers across the world and 8% of those in Turkey were diagnosed with copd.According to a study titled “BREATH” by Glaxo Smith Kline, it was established that copd is a common and a serious trouble most widely seen in Turkey.Copd is a serious threat around the world and a more serious threat in Turkey. The disease causes a high cost especially with acute fever; health resources are increasingly used, which are the most important disease burdens. In the mean time, copd also leads to a weaker quality of life and to increased mortality rates. An important clinical progress will be made at an important stage of the disease with early diagnosis and intervention, through which significant advantages will be taken of the life quality of patients. It is known that causing the deaths of many in our country, copd patients are offered inadequate health service, and that health institutions do not employ any capable nurses qualified enough to treat and care these patients properly. For the treatment of copd patients, nursing care(NC)is most important to provide the care under the best conditions and to improve the life quality at the optimal level at later periods. Nurses play an important part in dealing with the problems of patients, improving health and in the education of all the processes of the disease. Therefore, the participants need to observe on the field the diagnosis and treatment methods performed for copd disease in various language, religion, ethnicity and cultures at EU level, nursing care applications, roles and responsibilities of nurses and applications of health education offered to the public and to transfer the proper, innovative and effective practices. It is required to enhance the awareness of people about copd, to provide early diagnosis and make people live a higher quality of life in terms of respiratory health.“Never late!”, to achieve them, as is indicated in the slogan of the 16 November World Copd Day. The project aims to contribute to the introduction of the equipment and knowledge on the diagnosis, and treatment of copd and nursing care applications into the vocational education system, to help the training of qualified nurses and to provide job opportunities for them. The aim is also to provide the participants with vocational language knowledge and skills and to enhance their ability to have cross cultural contacts, as well as to make sure that they gain necessary knowledge and skills about copd. The purpose of the project is to reduce the number of complaints of copd patients, to improve the life quality, to prevent the attacks of respiratory distress, to slow down the progressing of the disease, to prevent the possible side effects, to treat and to offer professional health services, all with the provision of the transfer of the education of theory and skill on the field in EU standards to our country. In parallel with the education to be taken inEU countries, a sample model will be produced, which includes CD/DVD, an introduction film, brochure and a leaflet with COPD. The project also aims to offer professional care services in EU standards, to provide the dissemination of the product by applying nationwide, to improve self care and life qualities of patients, to reduce the possible side effects of the disease to the minimum through the provision of nursing care at the best conditions as the result of the knowledge and experience to be obtained and of the dissemination of the finished product across the vocational education and health sector. The improvement of the socio-economic level of our country is one of the expected results ofthe project by extending the recent applications, effective approaches and care in copd. The project willbe carried out for two weeks between 3 May and16 May, 2015 with fifteen participants who willbe accommodated in Spain,Germany and Italy at the same time. The total time of the project is twelve months.Beginning date: 01August, 2014 Due date1August2015.
