Kosovo! Bekanntes/Unbekanntes Europa! Deutsch-kosovarische Jugend auf dem Weg zum europäischen Verständnis!
Start date: Oct 1, 2014, End date: Dec 31, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

Kosovo! Known/unknown Europe! German-Kosovar youth on the way to European understanding! is a youth encounter corresponding to the Key Action/Leading Action Mobility of learning mobility of single persons out of the program Youth in Action/Erasmus+. The youth encounter is organized by the institutions SHL (Students helping life)-Kosova and the youth work of the City of Kelkheim (Taunus). Both institutions work mainly in the out-of-school youth education having the focus on encouragement of creativity and self initiative in further occupational and/or educational lifetime. Related to European priorities of prevailing basics such as cultural diversity the educational work is based on social integration of young people with increased requirements of support (inclusion), anti-racism/anti-Semitic and combating of discrimination of minorities due to sexual orientation and gender. The educational work is taken place in form of out-of-school youth education, open youth work, workshops and individual counseling. Background of the youth encounter that will take place in autumn 2014 are specific discussion forums and single counseling of youth having family or direct roots in the Territories of the Former Yugoslavia with respect to their relevant experiences of migration which are often connected directly with the Balkan Wars. The need of the young people to learn and find out about their cultural homelands in the 2010th as well as the want to share this with their friends has been for a long time the main topic of the boy’s day that is organized by the youth work of the city of Kelkheim (Taunus). The wish of the educational employees to establish an international youth work in Kelkheim in form of participating in the youth policy initiative JiVE Youth Work International – Experiencing Diversity with its sub-initiative Kommune goes International was matched with the wish of some male youth to organize a youth exchange to the Albanian dominated community of Montenegro (Ulcinj) and later on to the Kosovo, too. The youth work was happy to meet this wish and has found a competent partner organisation in SHL (Students helping life)-Kosova. The main goals of the mentioned youth meeting can be described in the advancement of the youth taking part regarding intercultural competence, raised awareness for differentness, diversity and tolerance, the crucial debate with their own prejudices, the self-confidence about their cultural identity, the value of culturally different-minded people, understanding of European citizenship, consolidated and broadened social skills, the courage to enter into foreign/unknown situations which is connected to enhanced chances to find a job. Further goals are to achieve sensibility for and raise awareness of topics such as development of democratic pattern, participation in decision-making of social processes and democratic values such as freedom, self-determination and respect for human rights. And last but not least the dealing with nature by the human beings. The planned activities can be divided into formal and non-formal/informal. The approach of the topic “cultural identity” can be described as informal activity. We will visit culturally and historically important sites of the Kosovar self-conception such as Madras in Rahovec/Orahovac, the museum of the Albanian League in Prizren, several mosques and Orthodox churches and sites of the autonomy movement from the Ottoman Empire. Formally, the above mentioned goals will be dealt with in workshops. Therefore we will moderate a discussion where we collect experiences, evaluate appraisals, discuss difficulties in implementation, structure subjects and work on specific topics which are primarily relevant to the youth groups of both nations. On the basis of these specific topics we are planning a transfer into a visual artwork. In our past youth meetings this have been the short films “Everybody has an identity” and “Living with Nature” visualising the themes of cultural identity and dealing with nature by German/Kosovar comparison. Furthermore, there will be opportunities for intercultural encounters in forms of group cooking, learning Albanian dances and if possible joint music sessions. Participants of this youth encounter are a multicultural group of about 30 young people of both nations. The German group exists of 10 youth with Kosovar, Turkish, Iraqi and German background and will travel to Rahovec/Orahovac – Kosovo and meet the local group of 20 youth having Albanian, Serbian, Roma and Ashkali background. For all youth it is common to experience social discrimination. The concept of this youth encounter is a long-lasting youth exchange and partnership.
