Komunikatywny informatyk na miarę XXI wieku
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Jul 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

"Communicative computer scientist of the XXI century” is a project that emerged from cooperation between Ecorecord sp. z o.o. and the British company Training Vision Ltd. The planned duration of the project is: 01.08.2014 - 31.07.2015. The main objective of the project is the strengthening of the comprehensive knowledge and professional competence, as well as key competences (linguistic, social and civic competences as well as cultural awareness) of 18 students of class III and IV of the Vocational School Complex No. 2 in Ostrołęka preparing them to perform the profession of computer scientist and more efficiently prepare students to apply to universities as well as to compete in the Polish and European labor market. Forecasts of labour market trends indicate unanimously that the in the coming years, the biggest number of jobs will be created in business services, especially such as IT services. Therefore there is a long-term high need for specialized personnel in this sector. The profession of a computer scientist in the near future will be a one of key professions for the European economy. In order to be able to navigate effectively and to compete in the European labor market young students of computer science need not only vocational skills, but also key soft skills such as: command of foreign languages, cultural competences, and the ability to find a job in an international environment. Only the combination of these two types of resources will enable them to fully exploit their professional potential. Such skills are also desirable by employers on the Polish labor market, which was confirmed by consultation with computer industry companies. United Kingdom has one of the world's largest and most innovative economies, with strong technological base and infrastructure which in order to develop needs a large group of highly qualified specialists, however faced with shortage of skilled workers. It is also one of few countries which play a key role in shaping the trends in information technology in Europe. For the Polish specialists British companies are attractive potential employers, both because of their level of technological proficiency as well as their demand for foreign professionals. One of the barriers faced by Polish computer scientists we want to overcome through implementation of the project is the language barrier - the language used commonly in the IT industry is English including the specialized IT language which is unknown to many students of computer science in our country. Mastery of the specialized English IT language will be a significant asset in the hands of the participants in their continuation of professional development. Among the students who attend computer sconce classes will be selected the group of the best 18 persons who will take part in four-week internship in the computer training center of Training Vision Ltd. In order to prepare to the internship the participants will take part in the intensive English course in which special emphasis will be placed on specialized vocabulary training. Expected results of the project include: - increase in knowledge and skills of at least 90 % of trainees (measured through comparison of initial and final test results), - significant increase in command of English language - including professional vocabulary - at least 90% of trainees (see above), - increase in knowledge of the British history, culture and economy of at least 90% of trainees (see above), - increase in soft skills, including communication skills, coping with stress and group work of at least 90 % of trainees (measured using a self-assessment questionnaire). The project will help to increase the prestige of our school, making valuable contacts, and contribute to the growth of employment among young people in our region. Local employers will also benefit as they will have access to young professionals with highly developed vocational and soft skills. Moreover, in the framework of project dissemination the participants will prepare multimedia presentations illustrating the acquired knowledge and experience. These presentations and the results of the project will be exposed to a wider audience - representatives of regional companies, other students from our school as well as representatives of other vocational colleges from our region - during the meetings of the open day at our school. It will encourage other students and other schools to participate in similar projects in the future.
