The project "Teachers’ linguistic competences and the use of communication technologies are a foundation of success of a modern school” is a two-year enterprise which, by creating a coherent system of vocational trainings, aims at:
• improving the knowledge and skills of participants in the use of ICT and language competences
• creating bilingual classes in the institution
• significant improvement of learning outcomes.
It is also an opportunity to improve the quality of school ’s work and to better prepare students from rural area for the future social and professional life.
Language learning is one of the most important elements of society and economy and core competence in the functioning of the modern world. The ability to use modern communication technologies, in combination with appropriate language teaching, is an opportunity for success of our school. The project also includes the development of intercultural competences which favor the creation of an open society that respects cultural diversity and is ready to cooperate.
The project will enable our students to effectively learn languages: English, German and Russian, because it will help them find themselves on the labor market, prepare for life in civil society, as well as enable them to make contacts with their peers from abroad.
The aim is to enable more teachers from our institution to better learn the English language and make international contacts.
Thanks to participating in the program elements of teaching in English will be introduced into different school subjects within a planned pedagogical innovation. It will be a program called "Let Polish Rest" - a few -minute periods of communication in a foreign language allowing for fulfillment of all the lesson’s objectives. Moreover, Russian language is planned to be taught by means of the English language.
The training plan includes: methodological trainings for language teachers, ICT trainings for science and general education teachers, CLIL trainings, General English with the elements of ICT trainings and a study visit to a school abroad. We would like to draw inspirations and innovative solutions from different parts of Europe – that is why we have chosen courses in England, Scotland, Malta, Austria and Latvia and a study visit to a school in Turkey.
The project involves 22 mobilities of different teachers in a junior high school, including 4 teachers participating in a study visit abroad and 16 teachers participating in 18 forms of professional development.
All teachers wishing to participate in the project are very active, engaged in social and pro-European activities at various levels (local, regional, national). For many years they have been cooperating with teachers from other countries to promote the international dimension of education and foreign language teaching. 89 percent of teachers interested in the project reside in rural areas.
The project is a response to the identified needs of the school. Teachers, in the survey prepared by initiators, expressed their vision of the project activities, called their needs and expectations and declared their commitment to specific aspects of the project and task groups. The forms of training included in the plan have been chosen carefully to allow for effective exchange of experience throughout the group (the multiplier effect).
Expected results of the project:
Implementation of the expected results of the project will:
• increase the level of motivation to learn foreign languages; it will be an incentive for self-improvement and seeking creative solutions in teaching
• affect the growth and development of key competencies, increase teachers and their students’ skills in the use of modern information and communication technology
• contribute to improving the attractiveness and effectiveness of the learning objectives, which should translate into increasing the performance of students and their language skills
The impacts of the project and the potential long-term benefits:
Implementation of the expected results of the project will:
• contribute indirectly to compensate for disparities in educational attainment of pupils, especially those having learning difficulties or at risk of premature falling out of the education system
• contribute to the creation of value added – it will extend the educational offer of the school
• enable the establishment of new international contacts and involvement of more teachers in the pro-European actions
• help to shape the openness, acceptance and tolerance among students
• enable the creation of bilingual classes in the institution
• allow teachers to effectively prepare students to undertake self-directed lifelong learning, including professional life (thanks to the creative use of the latest information technology)
