The project will cover two years, with 8 students taking part each year. The aim of the project is to provide our students with a wider European educational and cultural experience whilst enhancing their academic abilities by gaining credit for periods spent studying abroad. The opportunity to study in another European country will enhance their own personal development, support the development of language skills and build confidence and networks which can support them into employment. The Erasmus + programme allows us to build on previous projects for our students and add to the curriculum and employment areas that are of strategic importance to Scotland and particularly the Highlands and Islands. For our care students we will continue to work with our Swedish partner as Sweden's system of comprehensive and publicly-funded health care and social services, available to all residents, ranks amongst the most successful in the world. They are recognised world leaders in major health outcomes, such as infant mortality and adult life expectancy. Our students benefit hugely from having an insight into the methods used in Sweden. Additionally, and new for this year we are seeking to provide a similar experience for our students in the creative industries sector. Our students will work in partnership with Lulea Technical College in Sweden for a residential placement to enhance skills and training in audio and sound production. During the placement a number of different pieces of music will be developed with individual compositional techniques being applied. The aim will be to produce a truly European EP. All students will have been involved in the recording and development. The objectives of this project are: To enhance the learning of both student groups by exposing them to a different culture, To enhance the potential of worldwide creative collaborations. Alongside this they will have the time to experience the culture of living in Sweden, gaining life experiences as well as enhancing their core skills, theory in their choses curriculum area and their employability skills. The desire impact is to share good practice locally and highlight the possible changes that we can make in a community and broaden the opportunities for our young people. On a national level we will be sharing the good practice with the colleges in Scotland as well as look to address the gender issues in care. We see the longer term benefits being the creation of future links with partners globally, ensuring that we are sharing good practice to address global debates on healthcare as well as widening the prospects our of community through seeing the advantages of working in a culturally different setting.
