Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The 3rd Primary School of Makedonitissa host 337 students of age of 6-12 years and 28 teachers. It is a modern school building in the region of Makedonitissa, in the southern suburbs of Nicosia. The school became operative in September 2009 and has 15 rooms of teaching, as well as laboratories of Computer Science, Technology, Science, Domestic Economy, Music and Art, Library, a room for Emotional Education as well as a theater-multipurpose room. Our school is well equipped with various educational and technology tools (computers, access to Internet, video-projectors, interactive boards, etc.) The training of our teaching staff, inside and outside the school unit, is a continuous process. Moreover, our school is open to the exchange of experiences and proceedings of teaching and learning, through European collaborations and mobility of teachers. Our school is also involved in a variety of educational actions and projects aiming at enhancing the knowledges of our students and developing concrete attitudes and skills. Precisely, our school applies action plans in the following areas: 1) The development of "Reading for Pleasure". 2) The growth of attitudes and behaviors of active citizenship. 3) The development of environmental awareness. 4) The prevention and fight of bullying. 5) The emotional development of our students (self-discipline, resolution of differences, compassion, acceptance and respect of diversity, identify and fight bullying). Our basic aim for applying for Erasmus+ KA1 is the further professional growth of our school teachers in order to improve and enrich their teaching and learning practices and acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes/ behavior in the following areas: 1. Use and implementation of ICT tools and applications in teaching and learning process (Internet, interactive boards, multimedia, open-learning applications etc) 2. Emotional Education (self-discipline, resolution of differences, compassion, identify and fight bullying, acceptance and respect of diversity) 3. Active citizenship 4. Modern European educational practices and methodologies. All above training needs have been arisen through the evaluation of our school objectives and pupils' educational needs. In this program will participate eight of our school teachers, including executive personnel of the school. All of them hold a Bed Degree in Primary School teaching and most of them hold a Masters Degree in several areas of education. They are all of them experienced teachers. They have excellent knowledge of English language and they are, all of them, using, to an extent, ICT in their classroom. The project contains the following two activities: 1) A number of teachers (six) will attend short seminars carried out in European countries. All seminars have been selected after an intensive search in order to meet our school's training needs, as described above. 2) Two teachers will attend, for a period of five days, the every day practice of Paidos school, in Spain (job shadowing). The school has been selected because we believe that its practices will enrich and add to our own experiences and knowledge in areas like ICT and school organization. We expect that both the above described activities will improve and enrich the everyday practices in our school, as described further down: 1) More teachers will use and implement ICT tools and applications in more subjects, enhancing the teaching and learning process in their classrooms. 2) The teachers will acquire the necessary skills, knowledge and practices in order to develop and apply in school actions to handle issues like problem solving, conflict resolution, acceptance of differentiation and bulling. 3) More practices will be implemented within the school, to promote the development of active citizenship attitudes and behavior, among our pupils. Moreover, a plan of actions has been developed so that our organization will be able to integrate the competences and experiences acquired by staff participating in the project. More specifically, teachers attending the seminars will inform other staff and parents by organizing presentations, sample teachings and co-teaching. All good practices, arisen from the mobility project, will be implemented to the school through specific action plans. Finally, an evaluation of the impact of this mobility project to our school goals, will be attempted.
