Journey of Hope Cross-Border Cycling Tour
Start date: May 1, 2016,
End date: Apr 30, 2017
PROJECT
FINISHED
The Journey of Hope cross-border cycling tour has as its overarching objective to provide a pan-European event promoting the European Week of Sport (EWoS) in the weeks leading up to EWoS, culminating in a cross-sector PR event in Slovakia to mark the Flagship day of EWoS on 16 September. The tour will extend along EuroVelo routes in 7 countries, forming both part of the lead-up to the EWoS and contributing to the Week itself. The specific objectives are: A) To raise awareness among European citizens of events and opportunities offered in the upcoming European Week of Sport, and the benefits of being physically active. B) To engage communities along EuroVelo routes in seven countries physically in side events and digital communication efforts, and other participants Europe-wide through an online activation platform.C) To establish networks and partnerships to sustainably repeat the event in the coming years. The tour takes its starting point from a concept tested by ISCA in 2015. The test run demonstrated great potential for the event to be rolled out as a larger scale European event, with necessary adjustments made according to the previous experience. Additional funds will allow for broader-reaching social media and PR campaign featuring a #journeyofhope online activation platform with detailed information on the tour and a simple user interface allowing more citizens and stakeholders to get involved.ISCA believes that the test showed what can be done to fulfill recommendations made to the European Commission to hold a symbolic activity in the form of a “bike tour across Europe” connected to key aspects of the European Week of Sport (in this case it will mark both the opening on 10 September and the flagship day on 16 September). ISCA and the Turkish team of cyclists who will carry out the tour are ready to apply our experience and learnings from 2015 to organise a new cross-border cycling tour in a celebration of the European Week of Sport.
