The Jornadas Universitárias - Inclusão Pelo Desporto is a 4-day event organised by Associação IUNA which aims to bring to 120 young people aged between 18 and 30 in the city of Coimbra, Portugal between 16th and 19th November 2014.
The main theme of the event is "Sport as a tool for Youth Employment" and the debate will focus on two principal objectives:
• promoting the debate regarding the recognition and appreciation of non formal education competencies through associations and volunteer work in the field of sport, equipping young people with current market needs;
• promoting the presentation of ideas that lead to the improved quality and performance of education and training systems withing the higher education sector and that increase in the civic participation of young people in society.
The event will reflect the objectives of Structured Dialogue and will promote interaction among young people and between young people and European decision makers. Its will be structured in plenary sessions, discussion tables and working groups with emphasis on non-formal education with the objective of creating a manual of best practices related to inclusion through sport. This manual will then be disseminated and shared among the decision makers in the Ministries with responsibility for Sport, Education and Youth of the Member States of the European Union so that they are made aware of how to use Sport as a means of informal education and social inclusion among young people. The summary of the manual will be available on the digital platform.
The potential impact of the project over the next five years relates to a 40% increase in the practice of sport in the city of Coimbra and 20% in the cities that participate in the Facilitator's network, the inclusion of non-formal education based on sport and physical activity on the curricula of higher education institutions as a means of promoting the acquisition of individual and professional competencies among young people, the construction of volunteer programmes and civic participation of young people, the promotion within organisations from the Third Sector of the capacity to teach more disadvantaged young people to become professionals based on a model of sports education.
