The project area, Kr?slava, Daugavpils, J?kabpils and Prei?i districts in Latvia and Utena, Panevezys and Siauliai districts in Lithuania, has bad quality soil and large protected nature areas. This means fewer opportunities for traditional agriculture and pressing need for diversification of the rural Newly established Joint Research and technology unit of Daugavpils and Siauliai Universities supports small and medium-size businesses engaged in non-traditional agriculture and agriculture-related services. Project specialists offer a variety of lectures and seminars throughout the project area. Specialists are ready to provide analysis, parasitological tests and genetic analysis in framework of project. The target group and stakeholders are interested in project activities. The project has positive feedback and proposals for cooperation in joint scientific research from local entrepreneurs. Project included purchase of the following equipment: microscope, real time PCR, automatic DNA extracting system, laboratory equipment for soil analysis. All equipment has been installed to ensure better working conditions and possibility to provide the services more efficiently.
