FINISHED
The Itaca Cooperative Società Cooperativa Sociale ONLUS, a non-profit organization, which was set up on June 29th 1992, is a type A) Social Cooperative in accordance with Law 381/91, and employs about 1500 people. It has its headquarters in the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia in Vicolo Selvatico, 16 in Pordenone, but it covers the areas of Friuli Venezia Giulia, part of Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige.
The Progetto Giovani (Youth Project) for Sacile PN (Viale Zancanaro 10) is a youth meeting place offering an educational service for adolescents and young people and an educational service for the community. It is open from Monday to Saturday from 9.30 am to 7.30 pm. It is 15 km from the Itaca cooperative’s administrative offices. There are other 6 "CAG" which are involved in this project in Pordenone's District. Weekly activities might be changed but they will always be organized to be included between 35 and 38 hours a week.
These projects allow young people to gain access more easily to the complexities of the information system and guide them to becoming part of and being committed to the community by encouraging a model of active citizenship. The Cooperative’s role in this area is characterized by the creation of models for active citizenship and the promotion of youth culture through aggregation, socialization and active participation in initiatives, as well as by looking for innovative ways of intervening. We are looking for one volunteer. The volunteer will have to demonstrate motivation and an attitude for interpersonal relationships and team work, the willingness to learn, a flexible personality and curiosity. The volunteer must be interested to acquire skills in creating projects of development education (like school workshops, promotion of youth exchanges...) and should have experience in local associations. The volunteer must be willing to share accommodation with other Europeans (even if living space and independence is guaranteed) and be willing to be part of a multicultural environment.
The project is guaranteed to be equally accessible to all young people without exception. The elements in the profile are not used to judge the volunteer, but merely to select the ones with the best characteristics for the projects both from the point of view of personal attitude and shared goals.
The type of activities organized for the volunteer will be based on those elements which Itaca considers most important:
- ways of collaborating with life in the area to develop the concept of an active, solidarity-based community;
- active participation of EVS volunteers in local social and cultural life;
- an informal network and opportunities to integrate socially with young people;
- the concept of active citizenship amongst young people.
The project is called “JOIN US” and provides 4 kinds of activities :
1- SETTING UP COMMUNICATION WAYS BETWEEN VARIOUS “CAG” IN PORDENONE
2- COOPERATION WITH SCHOOLS AND OTHER EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATIONS LOCATED IN PORDENONE’S DISTRICT
3- CARRYING OUT SPECIFIC COOPERATIONS ON THE IDENTIFIED OBJECTS FROM THE AUTOTRAINING PATH OF THE YOUTH POLICIES OPERATORS TO RESETTLE THE OFFERED SERVICE
4- SUPPORTING THE ACTIVITIES OF THE EURODESK POINT IN SACILE
The volunteer will be placed in a work group of experienced professionals who are constantly supervised by a coordinator. The volunteer’s weekly activities will be organized on the basis of about 35-38 hours per week. The volunteers will be properly accompanied during their experience and will share the aims and objectives, styles of intervention and communication models of the work team in which they have been placed. After an initial phase in which the volunteers will be encouraged to observe, listen and pay attention to the relational dynamics, they will begin a more active phase. Once the relationship has been consolidated, the volunteers will take part in individual activities and projects that will enable them to interact with the team, the users and the local Community.
European volunteers represent the European citizens and future workers, undoubtedly giving the volunteers a certain experience that is often and interesting first approach towards a working environment and to an environment different of origins.
It activates an enriching contrast contributing to the creation of a European citizenship, encouraging dialogue, intercultural comparison and solidarity.
Allowing the volunteer to experience such proposals in direct contact with young people, permits “peer to peer” training and offers awareness to issues of volunteerism and European citizenship among young people. The activities held will also accomplish the following results for Itaca: increase the ability to operate at a European level, quality improvement within European Voluntary project management, further effective activities for local community welfare.
