Project: English-lingua franca. The project related to enhancing the quality of teaching English in Technikum Inżynierii Środowiska i Agrobiznesu in Poznań. Our School has recently started cooperation with the University of Life Sciences in Poznań and in order to meet new demands has been aiming to improve the quality of teaching English. Our graduates have always achieved good results in vocational exams and poor results in school- leaving exams in English. The main aim of the project is to raise the quality standards of teaching English through developing staff competences, namely two teachers of English as a foreign language, in the areas associated with it and giving the teaching of our school the European level and dimension. Our school is not only going to offer its two teachers an opportunity to attend courses in methodology and pedagogy of foreign language teaching but also hopes that the experience gained in an intercultural / international context will be used to implement future partnerships and enable cooperation with schools from European countries. The research done in the area of language teaching proves that the competence of teacher impacts the learning of his/her students. Additionally, students are motivated the most to learn foreign languages when they can contact their peers from countries of language they have been trying to master. We expect that after completing the chosen courses our teachers will demonstrate not only the greater knowledge and skills but also they will gain innovative tools and authentic materials designed to teach English. We hope to establish and maintain contacts with other European teachers and schools in order to prepare and work on international educational projects. We are sure that these steps will improve the quality of teaching English and better the results of exams in English in our school.
