Latin America and Europe can both learn from their respective experiences on crisis management and distributive and democratic implications at national and regional level. Democratic, distributive and regional aspects of crisis response in regard to monetary, financial & economic policies and institutional& democratic reforms are key but have not been adequately addressed in the literature. The Jean Monnet Network on crisis management, equity and democracy will engage in research, exchange, debate, comparison of experiences in LAC and EU, stimulate mutual policy learning, knowledge transfer and building, think tank activity and policy advice. The thematic bi-regional structure will allow in-depth analysis of the impact of different crisis in the LAC and EU crisis, and of its management nationally, regionally and regarding bilateral relations as well as on the distributive and democratic implications of the crisis management. The network aims to build bridges for the research on crisis undertaken in different disciplines (economics, sociology and political science) and on different continents and in this way stimulate further interest and research in EU studies. The network will collaborate with EU and LA national and regional institutions, regional development banks, central banks, social movements, the general public and media, to participate at 6 outreach activities which will feed into the research and into the elaboration of policy advice on some of the most socially incendiary issues of today. The cooperation with extended networks such as the RIBEI and the EU-CELAC Academic summit will be instrumental to promote research on EU and the bi-regional dialogue in the field of socio-macroeconomic policies and governance and democracy which would provide an additional strategic content to the Strategic Alliance the Summits EU-CELAC are supposed to build.
