This application seeks support from the Erasmus+ Programme to establish a Jean Monnet Chair (hereinafter: JMC) in EU Public Law. The applicant is Professor of European Law at Middlesex University London. Key points: (i) The proposed JMC would enable the chair holder to raise the profile of the study of EU public law studies at the applicant’s primary institution in London and overseas campuses (Malta, Mauritius and Dubai);(ii) Curriculum development: Establishment of a JMC would enable the host organisation to offer revamped as well as new and innovative modules (e.g. Teaching EU Law through a law clinic), and promote a participatory teaching model via the setting up of a ‘Jean Monnet Project Team’; (iii) International impact would be exceptional due to the pioneering features of the host organisation, which operates with a main campus in London and satellite campuses on the basis of the principle of equivalence;(iv) External promotion and visibility would be sought via the organisation of workshops in London, Mauritius and Dubai in cooperation with the UK Association of European Law, and an annual short course in cooperation with a leading law firm;(v) Medium-term goal is to set up a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence by harnessing existing EU expertise within the applicant’s School of Law and by engaging promising academics in teaching and research on EU law subjects.
