The project Jean Monnet Chair in EU Foreign Policies fosuses on promotion and enhancement of teaching on the topic of European public policies. The basic aim of the project is to innovate and expand teaching about the European integration within the curricula of study programmes at the Department of Politics and International Relations, Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, University of West Bohemia. The project also includes research and publishing activities focusing on the EU policy-making system and EU foreign policies. At present, the Department provides two study programmes at bachelor level (Political Science and International Relations with specializations in British and American Studies or Russian Studies) and two study programmes at master level (Political Science and International Relations). Several courses dealing with the topic of European integration are included in curricula, but issues of European integration are treated exclusively in historical and institutionalist perspective. The perspective of European Union as policy-making system is absent. The project aims to fill up this notional gap in teaching on European integration by innovating two existing courses at bachelor level and establishing four new courses at master level (together creating new single specialization at master level). In accordance with the above, the project focuses on the development of teaching and research in the field of European public policies. With regard to general orientation of study programmes provided by the Department, the project activities will be specifically focused on the public policies of the European Union (the topics of policy-making system of the EU and Europeanization of policies) with special focus on external policies of the European Union (foreign policy, security and defence policy, development policy and neighborhood policy). Moreover, the project includes research and publishing activities in the aforementioned thematic areas.
