This application for establishing a Jean Monnet Chair at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Khazar University (DJMC) has a number of objectives. The first objective of the proposed project is to equip students with knowledge and skills in the field of EU Studies by introducing three new courses, European Integration in Comparative Perspective, Regional Dimension of the European Neighbourhood Policy and EU as a Global Player. The Chair will carry out a research which will lead to a publication.DJMC aims to improve the quality of education in the Department on EU-related subjects by employing novel teaching methods in the education process. One of these techniques is online teaching inspired by the Massive Open Online Courses, an online resource created by leading Western universities. DJMC will also endeavour to harness the synergy between formal and non-formal learning aspects of education. DJMC will host a series of events, titled European Seminar, on European integration. The DJMC will organize guest lectures by authoritative experts, practitioners, scholars and professors in EU matters to share their expertise with the Azerbaijani audience. The series will be open to the academic community and the public. The Department already has experience in arranging events on EU matters with the participation of Ambassadors of European countries, Senior officials from the European Commission Delegation in Baku, EU officials and scholars visiting Baku. DJMC will support research cooperation among the Azerbaijani scholars and postgraduate researchers by providing the services of the EU Studies Centre and by establishing a platform of researchers and scholars. Collaborative initiative within the framework of this project will culminate in an international conference, the first of its kind in Azerbaijan, to promote discussion on European integration. The conference will bring together scholars and practitioners.
