The IRFPP addresses the problems facing neighbourhood social workers in housing estates. The objectives are to promote the image of the social worker, to effectively recruit and select future personnel, to train them using suitable training modules (CZ, EN, FR, IT, SV) and, finally, to ensure that these training courses are recognised by the professional sector and the public authorities.Hence there is a need to reconsider the content and form of the training courses for access to the profession and to innovate where necessary. The project is addressed to unemployed adults who are being retrained and to young people without vocational qualifications. The vocational training provided focuses on the management of neighbourhood problems and client services. Thanks to appropriate vocational training, it will promote the social and economic integration of unqualified young people from disadvantaged urban areas, while perpetuating the skills acquired by adults who are being retooled in response to industrial change.Besides raising public awareness as regards these professions, the project is developing a communications strategy for the media. The professional associations and the public authorities associated with the project will take account of the results in the social dialogue and ensure widespread dissemination throughout Europe. An Internet site has been developed and the products will be commercially exploited (CZ, EN, FR, IT, SV). A seminar on the training of neighbourhood social workers will also be organised in the partner countries (CZ, F, I, S). The project will have an impact on the integration and retraining of disadvantaged groups.
