If successful, the two EVS volunteers will be mainly working on the YMCA PAKT (Parents and Kids Together) programme . One volunteer will be based in Ballincollig, and the second volunteer will be based in Bantry. Both volunteer placements are for a 10 month period where they will take part in the implementation of all aspects of the project working with 6 to 16 year old young people and their families. Some knowledge, experience or interest in this area is not compulsory but desirable. This will include family support work through a number of weekly children’s activities (e.g. art, crafts, drama, sports, computers, music etc.) and regular family events (e.g. barbecues, games, treasure hunts etc.). The work also includes parent support work through parents programme and family support through individual family visits and individual support plans. The volunteer will also be given the opportunity to support other YMCA projects in the local area based on the individuals interests. In Bantry, the volunteer will be given the opportunity to support the youth information programme, helping to create and disseminate information that is relevant to young people in Ireland. While not necessary, experience with video editing and production is an asset for the Bantry placement. Results / impact / longer term benefits envisaged for the participants include Increased language skills, digital skills, active citizenship, sense of social inclusion, new friends, increased job and study opportunities, leadership skills, understanding of child and youth development, child protection and safety, increased communication and social skills, increased self-esteem, increased ability to work in a team and on own initiative, enhanced inter cultural awareness, increased motivation, stronger sense of self identify and future goals. Our PAKT mission statement states: "Parents and Kids Together works with the whole family to support young people to gain the assets they need to be resilient in the face of life’s challenges." Building on this focal objective we aim to support the volunteer in identifying realistic goals, through ongoing supervision and reviews we hope that the volunteers will experience growth in their own assets and competencies which are also identified through the Youth pass process.
