ion of aquatic communities in the Gulf of Finland: risk-based policymaking (EVAGULF)
Start date: Aug 31, 2006, End date: Dec 30, 2007 PROJECT  FINISHED

In the framework of the project the systematical classification of the most threatened populations in the ecosystem of the Gulf of Finland will be started and analysis- and decision-tools based on latest computational methodology be produced. The interactive tools will be created especially thinking about needs of the decision-makers and they will be published for the public use and evaluation internationally. One of the main purposes of the project is to produce tools that will promote gaining uniform finnish-estonian view about the condition of the marine ecosystem, reasons that have led to the circumstances as well as the situation that will be aimed for. They will also concretize the ecosystem risks connected to the eutrophication and to promote the cost-efficient use of resources on hand for the protection of the Gulf of Finland. Part I is a pilot phase which is aiming for a larger international project in the near future.
