PROJECT
FINISHED
Formed in 2011, the Consortium Gil Eanes Schools is well diversified, in terms of its component schools and in terms of the different structures. It has about 1,951 students from different socio-economic backgrounds, with seven schools belonging to three of the four parishes of Lagos.
So, as a result of the survey of training needs among all members of the educational community, this learning and mobility project named "building tomorrow school", part of the Gil Eanes consortium training plan (approved for a period of two scholastic years), is based on three priority intervention areas: curriculum, management and interpersonal relationships.
1st area – “Curriculum”
From an international partnership based on the promotion of exchange of knowledge, the sharing of different pedagogical practices and different models of management, it is hopeful to reach moments of discussion and of definition of strategies that lead to an improvement in the quality of the learning process and maybe some changes in the students’ curriculum. It can be introduced some topics to develop in school subjects or even create new ones related to the main projects of the Consortium (e.g. environmental education).
2nd area – “Management”
Considering that it has become increasingly important to have a good coordination among the different levels of decisions, it is also required to give importance to the sharing of experiences and management models. That is already done not only through local training but also through the regional and national contacts with the different actors.
But we have to go further. It is now relevant to share experiences with other actors, international partners, regarding an efficient development of management skills, particularly leadership and even other levels of intermediate leaders - heads of department, professional and vocational courses coordinators, representatives from disciplinary group, class teachers…
3rd area –“Interpersonal Relationships”
Through this project, it is expected to achieve an effective and dynamic team work both in a horizontal (teacher / teacher; coordinator / coordinator) and a vertical perspective (teacher / coordinator; headteacher/ coordinator; headteacher/ principal). At the same time, there must be also considered in this technical dynamic the school psychologist or the chief of the administrative services, since their specific role can lead to a better achievement of the work developed throughout Consortium.
Since this Consortium is composed by schools that teach the same levels of education, although geographically distant and socioeconomically distinct, it is extremely important to have a combination of efforts that can effectively create a dynamic and cooperative work among all teachers. So, it is expected to optimize the educational process, sustained in a collaborative work, in the management and in the resolution of conflicts, promoting and monitoring students in the different schools of the Consortium throughout their school life, from pre-school to secondary education.
So, through the attendance of courses, seminars and job shadowing, this project " building tomorrow school " aims to promote a Consortium opened to internationalization based on a management where everyone takes part and gives his/her own contribution. It is expected to reinforce experiences in areas such as the specific teaching techniques, the different levels of management, the social inclusion and the respect for diversity.
