Internationalisierung und Mobilität
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The hospitality and gastronomy businesses are classical industries of the service sector and as such marked by an increasing internationalisation. Everywhere in the world, guests are today expecting from service providers a high level of language skills and internationally comparable professionalism. Hotels, restaurants, and other businesses in this industry are only successful in a long-term perspective if they match international standards. And graduates of hospitality management schools are expected to show an almost world-wide mobility and professional intercultural competences. As a consequence of this, it is our goal to increase the number of internationl connections, partnerships and activities. To mention just some examples: long-term school partnerships, mutual visits and short exchange programmes that involve both teachers and students. In order to prepare these activities, a regular exchange using suitable media (e.g. skype, moodle) are important. Activities include practise projects, e.g. visits to gastronomically interesting businesses, joint professional show cooking with specialities of the respective countries of origin on open doors days, as well as seminars and teaching sessions. It is important for staff to increase their language skills in preparation of such activities. Therefore, it is vital to enable staff to participate at language courses. As a result, the qualitiy of teaching will increase. This is especially important since hospitality management students are young professionals who often have already worked abroad and expect to find in the institution they chose standards of teaching comparable to the major international hotel schools. Internationally well-connected teachers (at least on social media) are seen to be competent, projects with partner schools abroad have a high motivational effect on both teachers and students and will, in the long run, have a positive influence on the school's reputation and attractivity. And this, last but not least, also increases the graduates' career chances.
