The Klaus-Harms-Schule, a certified UNESCO project school, is situated in a rural part of Schleswig-Holstein at the edge of the town of Kappeln. It has had school exchange programs for many years with schools in Poland, Italy and France. Furthermore the school is well-known for its high number of exchange students from all over the world. In grade 7 to 9 the school offers bilingual classes in Geography and History. Some classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards, and this year the number of whiteboards and tablets will be enlarged due to a high investment of the city of Kappeln. Furthermore, the implementation of an internet-platform for the school is expected.The language courses (Spanish, Italian) are to enable the participants to improve their language skills in order to communicate better with the Spanish speaking exchange students. This help the students to overcome problems of adjusting to the different school system at the beginning of the schoolyear. The improved language skills should also lead to a better communication and understanding of the Italian colleagues during the exchange with our Italian partner school. It will enable the teacher to improve the annual one-week excursions to Italy.The courses about ICT in the classroom will improve the teaching methods in the English and French lessons. ICT-competences of the participants will be enhanced so that they can apply innovative teaching methods in their lessons. The new equipment in the classroom of interactive whiteboards and tablets can be implemented in modern and rewarding lessons of English and French. Their improved competences will support international school projects (Baltic Sea Project, Exchange programmes). The teachers will be able to meet foreign collegues in their courses which can initiate new international projects. Their new skills should be transferred to other subjects and to the teachers' team which deals with "digital media in the classroom".CLIL-courses which some teachers will participate in will enhance the CLIL-lessons with another subject (Social and Political Studies) so that our school has more staffmembers who are able to teach their subjects in English. The students will improve their language skills by taking part in CLIL-lessons so that they are well prepared to communicate on an international level. The teachers will learn effective and modern teaching methods in the CLIL-courses which they can communicate to the other CLIL-teachers. The job-shadowing at a school in the Czech Republic, which also has a number of CLIL-classes of different subjects, will enhance the experiences of teaching bilingual classes and should lead to an exchange of ideas in this field. This might help the Bili-teachers at the Klaus-Harms-School to put up a concept for bilingual classes in the upper grades starting from year 10.All in all the project should modernize the lessons, lead to a better communication with (foreign) students and enrich the students' and teachers' school life. Making the Klaus-Harms-School more international will lead to a greater attractiveness of the rural area around Kappeln.
