The International Job-Shadowing Program has evolved in reaction to diverse requests from our member organizations, their international partners and volunteers. The starting point of the project initiation was their incontent with the intensity of the exchange on the topic of youth work as well as a lack of international qualification of youth workers and volunteers. The International Job-Shadowing Program offers international volunteers and youth workers the opportunity to intern at a youth organization in Germany, Turkey, Ukraine or Belarus. In line with the EU-youth strategy, participants of this non-formal learning activity are given the opportunity to acquire a range of personal and occupational key competences. The qualification and network possibilities given to the participants is meant to feed back into a heightened quality of youth work in the participating organizations. Overall, 19 young volunteers or youth workers will participate in the International Job-Shadowing Program. Conditions for participation are experience in youth work, the motivation to incorporate learning experiences and contacts from the program to foster international exchange and knowledge of the language in the receiving country or good knowledge of English. Applicants with a migration background are favored throughout the selection process for their multicultural resources and bridging role in the exchange with their countries of heritage. During the preparation phase project coordinators in each country acquire receiving organizations, select participants for the Job-Shadowing Program and prepare the chosen participants for their internships in intercultural seminars. During the internships, interns are given an overview on the different working fields of their receiving organization, assist in the execution of their projects or carry out small projects on their own. Back at home, participants are given the chance to reflect upon their learning experience at an evaluation seminar. Administrative follow-up work and evaluation are carried out on the level of individual partner organizations and on a general level through a meeting of all project coordinators at the end of the program. As a result of the program, synergies and sustainable developments are fostered in regard to the qualification of youth work of the participating organizations. The participants acquire key competences for their further career. The participation of young people with a migrant background results in increased esteem for their interculturality and their bridging role as well as a heightened awareness for diversity and social integration in the field of youth work. International cooperation on youth politics and a multilateral forum for topics such as democratization, participation, intercultural learning and condemnation of discrimination in youth work will be achieved in the long run.
