There will be an international exchange in Uslar performed with three youth groups from three European Countries (Germany, France and Poland) in 2015. Uslar is a town in the southern part of Lower Saxony. The young people are aged 15 to 19 years. In each group there will be 12 young people and 2 group leader. All in all there will be 46 people at the exchange (42
participants and an organizing team of 4 people). The young people are composed heterogeneously in education and environment.
They are informed about participation in multiple ways. A gender-equal representation is sought. If possible young people from past
exchanges joins the groups to continue the process of friendship. All participants have got geographical, cultural, economic and
social disadvantages.
In Winter 2015 there will be a meeting in advance in Uslar with a coordinator and a member of the young people. The rules,
expectations and responsibilities are defined together. The results are recorded and the documents will be sent to all groups. The
applicant organisation creates checklists and manuals to assist each group in preparation, arrival and staying in Uslar.
Project title is "Kio estas Felico?" (What makes you happy?).
The young people acquire skills in intercultural learning. Through the reflection of their own culture, they learn tolerance of other
cultures. By the focus on happiness there will be a promotion of personal resilience, work-life-balance and civic engagement.
Scientific theories prove that 40 percent of life satisfaction are personally influenced. The young people questioning the other
generations (parents and grandparents) to their ideas of happiness. During the meeting, the young people compare the ideas of
happiness in the individual countries, the ideas of other generations and determine similarities and differences. They will become
aware and able to recognize their happiness-promoting factors. The working language is English. English is taught in schools of all
program partners. In the beginning of the exchange there will be a lesson of Esperanto. This will help the participants that are not
good in speaking and understanding English. During the exchange there will be a lot of group activities for the young people to try
out practically, which activities make them happy. There will be diversity of interests that the young people find something
interesting for themselves (happiness because of sense experience, movement, creativity, boredom, friendship and love,
participation, money). The promotion of resilience and active life promotes pluralistic European idea. However, precise effects
cannot seriously been proved in such a short period of time. The presumed effects often occurs after years and decades.
The program of the exchange was an idea of the international exchange in 2006. A group of young people from Uslar gave
information for the realisation of the programm before this application. The final program will be planned with out partners
together in the meeting in advance.
During the meeting there will be an evaluation in between and at the end. There will be a daily happiness check of the participants.
The group leaders meet each night in conferences (including representatives of the participants) because of a good communication
system and to clear conflicts, if necessary. The society of Uslar, Göttingen and Hannover are participating. A lot of other important
people like mayors, councilmen and professionals will also participate. With public relation activities and activities in the urban area
a lot of citizens will get information about the exchange. The young people understand similarities and differences in the four
countries of the European Union. They will understand similarities and differences in different generations, too. After completing the
camp the young people talk to friends, their families and other groups about the exchange and about happiness. Further
informations about the exchange and the result will be given to professionals, politicians and other interested groups.
At the end of the exchange all participants are going to plan next activities to continue the friendship.
