International Voices of Folk
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Two groups of young people (between 18 and 30 years of age) will take part in the "International Voices of Folk" project. They will represent two member states of the EU - Poland and France. Although all the participants share a common interest in folklore, they have different hobbies. Some of them are musicians, some are singers and some are poets. All of them will meet up in Drohiczyn and try to re-establish folklore as a source of creative inspiration. The main goal of our project is to foster European integration on the social level through a better understanding of our cultures and traditions. We decided to do that with the help of folklore. Apart form being a reason for debate about the similarities and for building international bridges, it will serve as a material for creative activities. During many workshops, integrative games, individual and group tasks, we will teach each other traditional folk songs form our countries. In the second part of the project however, we will move past that and try to begin creating innovative arrangements of folk motives, proving at the same time that folklore is not a relic of the past but a beating heart of every nation. After many discussions, creative sessions and presentations we will come up with numerous interesting pieces which we plan to present to the local community. At the same time we will spark a discussion about if what we have done is suitable or not. By recording both audio and video material form our sessions and placing then on-line, we hope to reach a broad audience. This way we will bring folklore to their attention and at the same time show them, what an interesting material for creative experiments it is.
