Under the theme “Seeking the heart of Europe”, the International Session of the European Youth Parliament in Brno will bring together 280 young participants from 31 European countries, including local youth from Brno and the Czech Republic. For the majority of participants, this will be the first time experiencing such an international environment and getting directly in touch with decision-makers. The theme highlights the impact events like this can have on participants, as well as on their direct and indirect environment. During eight working days, the event will create a unique parliamentary simulation for the young delegates to work together, learn from each other, and experience parliamentary democracy first hand. The programme is based on recurring needs analysis of our target group and evaluations of past activities show our methodology has a proven track record of being successful. It will offer them a unique experience to directly engage with decision-makers. The participants will divide into fifteen international working groups to discuss a current European topic and to draft a resolution by formulating their own ideas. They will also receive input and be in dialogue with experts and decision-makers during this process. The resolutions will then be debated in an interactive two-day General Assembly, somewhat similar to those of the European Parliament, but developed to fit the target group. Additionally, the International Session will include a series of cultural events promoting intercultural exchange and dialogue and celebrating Europe’s rich cultural diversity.By participating in Brno 2017, the young participants will go through a non-formal as well as informal learning experience aimed at the promotion of European citizenship, active participation, democratic procedures and values and intercultural dialogue. Within the project, we wish to encourage young people to actively participate in discussions currently on the political agenda as well as to learn new skills through working in international multi-cultural teams on challenging political topics. The event is an entirely youth driven project, organised by voluntary active young people aged between 16 and 26. EYP CZ hosts the event and is supported by a steering group of four close partners. A bigger group of 27 sending partners select participants from additional countries to Brno, bringing a total of 31 countries together (note there are two partners from Germany, hence 32 partners from 31 countries).
