Internasjonalisering Borgund VGS 2014-2016
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "Internationalization Borgund VGS 2014-2016" has been a project with the focus on giving students greater cultural understanding, development of language skills and communication in addition to vocational competence as the project aimed for. The project can also be seen as an extension of the work done in previous projects the school has carried out. This has given the school the opportunity to work continuously and systematically with internationalization in vocational education. The project has given 53 students the opportunity to travel in Europe where they have completed their vocational practice for a period of two or three weeks. The students were on VG2 and VG3 level in their education and were selected on the basis of good attitudes, good attendance and that they would come to be good representatives of their profession, the school and themselves. Social background and grade level were not elements in the selection as all students have an equal opportunity to participate. Students came from program areas building and construction, design and crafts, restaurant and food processing, health and social care and electro. Activities that were carried out in the period before leaving was informative. The students were well and gained insight to topics such as communication, labor and culture. All students were given work experience in a company / firm / institution where they practiced the profession they plan to have their certificate of apprenticeship; Interior design, hairdressing, skin care, health worker, automation engineering, computer electronics, medical, pharmacy technician, carpenter, concrete worker, waiter, chef, pastry chef and baker. A total of 14 professions were exercised by students through the project. This has shown that planning and cooperation with our partners has been very good and that they, along with teachers and the school's international coordinator, has done an excellent job. We believe that the wide range of subjects is essential for the school to be able to offer something unique to students at Borgund VGS. During the period in companies the students were supervised by skilled workers and were followed up by the teachers. Students communicated with teachers at home using facebook and Fronter. There was not a lot of difficulties during the project, but the challenges that arose were resolved smoothly and efficiently in cooperation between schools, partners and guardians. No serious incidents took place. Feedback from companies testify that they are impressed with the standard of the Norwegian education and that students were good ambassadors of the school, the profession and themselves. Students have reported about experiences that they would not have been without. They have completed an internship in Europe that has resulted in formal qualification which they can document by the Europa Assistant exam. Each student has probably not focused on their role in the bigger picture, where the deployment in Europe is to create a more peaceful world. Borgund VGS believes it is important to work with internationalization of education. Understanding and having own points of reference in relation to contact with other cultures is important and helps the school becomes a solid educational arena where everyone is included and respected. By beeing able to send students out in Europe, as done in this project, we hope we contribute to educate "Proud professionals of the future!"
