In our project "Intercultural Work with Children and Youth" volunterrs have the possibility to gain experiences i in the work of a free educational institution. The volunteer service takes place in the ""Jugendaustauschwerk im Kreis Gütersloh e.V. - Droste-Haus" (trans.: youth exchange organisation in the district of Gütersloh e.V." in a small city called Verl. Verl is a small city between Bielefeld, Gütersloh and Paderborn. It ist a rural landscape and in the city are living 25.000 inhabitants. The volunteer service lasts 12 months in which the volunteer will get to know the different work fileds of the youth exchange organisation. Objective of our project is to emphasize the European awareness of the volunteer and widen their ability and knowledge in the work with children and youth. By this they can multiplicate the positive approach and the awareness for a common Europe. The volunteer should enlarge her key and intercultural competences. Special focus of this project is on the topic discrimination of young people due to economic or fisical disadvantages. The volunteer will search for ways to make people aware of this topic within the framework of their activities woth children, youth and their parents in our organisation.According to her interests, the volunteer will work in play groups (like kindergarden) with children aged 1,5 to 4 years, in the center of youth education with children aged 3 to 10 years and in the vacation games for children aged 6 to 12 years. Here she will get to know different methods to work with children. She is always instructed by pedagogically trained staff. Furthermore she will get to know the supervision over lunch and in the afternoons at the primary schools and secondary schools in Verl.In the international youth work the volunteer attend international youth groups e.g. from Russia, latvia, Switzerland, Egypt, and Hungary. Those groups will visit Verl for a certain time and the youngsters are attempting special educational programs, living in hostfamilies and doing projects with German youngsters. Here the volunteer will help and be active. Together with the youth from other countries, the volunteers will get to know methods of intercultural and international youth work. The volunterr should develop understanding for the people and the environment in Verl. We hope that she is able to motivate other young people to be interested in EU-porjects and own experiences in the abroad. The volunteer is living in a host family and thereby has direct entry to social life in the city. The volunteer should gain a deep insight for the people and the life in the area in which they spent their time of European volunteer service. She becomes able to use their new knowledges for intercultural work with children and youth in their home countries. She is able to advertise intercultural exchange within Europe and multiplicate the idea of intercultural dialogue in their homecountries. As well the volunteer already multiplicates during her volunteer service to all children, youth and adults, they are working with and she will be aa multiplicater also back in her home town and country. An awareness for european values and union will be created and multiplicated by all participated in the project (Staff in sending and hosting organisations, volunteers, host familiy, visitors of the organisation and participants of our activities). The project will be made visible by appointments with the local press in order to introduce the volunteer work to local society. Furthermore, the volunteer will participate in info activitier for future volunteers in order to talk about their insight perspective of a European volunteer service.
