Interaction of environment and human health: Experience of the European Union
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2019 PROJECT  FINISHED

here is a growing body of evidence that the environment can affect human health and health care can affect the environment. The increasing complexity of environmental and health interactions requires close collaboration of environmental scientists, physicians, public health professionals, policy makers, whose combined expertise in environmental reporting and scientific research can contribute to raising awareness of the successful practices of EU in the field of environment and public health and well being. The EU has accumulated a great amount of research data proving the impact of various environmental factors on the state of public health. The quality of the environment in Europe has improved considerably with benefits to human health which resulted in significant increase in average life expectancy in comparison with many other parts of the world. Despite of the fact that scientific understanding of the links between the environment and human health in Russia has advanced significantly, large knowledge gaps still exist. In order to protect and strengthen the health and well-being of current and future generations in Russia, it's necessary to study and adopt best European practices in terms of environment and human health interactions. This Jean Monnet Module envisages delivering a tailor-made course "Interaction of environment and human health: Experience of the European Union" which will improve the quality of training the vocational courses associated with the EU relevant for graduates in their professional life. The proposal will address knowledge gap about the EU experience in the field by accumulation, analysis and dissemination of best European practices, experience and knowledge of the correlation between the state of environment and public health.
