Basic skills (literacy, numeracy, science, technology, English as a second language) are the foundation for further learning and are a gateway to employment and social inclusion, according Europe 2020 - the EU's strategic growth strategy. A key factor for achieving smart, sustainable, and inclusive growth is to implement policies, programmes and projects aimed at raising attainment levels and improving attitudes, with a particular emphasis on low-achievers. A special focus is needed to the achievements of adult learners and to their need of adaptation to the dynamic needs of the labour market and social inclusion. One of the main objectives of the project IGETADAPT is to respond to the needs of adult learners of short-term and effective method for acquiring knowledge and skills contributing to their professional realization regardless of the field of career.
The project IGETADAPT is based on transfer of the "Suggestopedia" educational system and its adaptation to the methodologies used in trainings and education on Basic skills for adults.
Suggestopedia is a combination of pedagogy and psychology. This is original system for efficient learning:
- In a positive and spontaneous way
- Without stress or fatigue
- Through mental relaxation and concentration unstressed
- With the help of art
The innovation within the project consists in the adaptation of the Suggestopetia system to the methodologies for Basic skills trainings. The Suggestopedia system is mostly used for foreign language education but in the last 5 years the methodology is applied experimentally and with high level of success in Bulgaria also for trainings and education on literacy and numeracy. With this project the system of Suggestopedia will serve as a basis for development of innovative methodology for Basic skills education of adults.
In order to achieve project’s objectives, the following activities are defined for implementation:
1) Common Methodological framework developement
Transnational Meeting
Thematic seminar - Suggestopedia system in Basic skills adult education – including 30 representatives of stakeholders
2) Basic Skills Suggestopedia Tools (BSS Tools)
Transnational Meeting
Short term learning activity - Train the Trainers course – including 9 trainers to be trained
3) Testing Evaluation reports – including 60 representatives of the target group - adult learners participating in the testing of the BSS Tools;
Transnational Meeting
Evaluation Round Table – including 30 representatives of stakeholders
4) Final Report
Final Conference - including 30 representatives of stakeholders
In addition to the main activities, the following results are envisaged:
# Guide for application of Common Methodological framework - 500 copies;
# Interactive media presentation of the BSS Tools - 500 copies on Flash memories drive
# 1 Final press-conference - at least 10 representatives of media will be invited to the Final Press-conference in Bulgaria;

# 1 Final round table – at least 20 representatives of local, regional and national authorities and representatives of the non-governmental sector will be invited to the final round-table in Bulgaria.
GETADAPT project will have a direct impact on the local communities that benefit from the project but it will also have an indirect impact at national, and European level by developing and promoting an innovative effective system for Basic skills adult learning.
In fact, people don't mastering the basic skills can benefit from project's tools which will help them to access further education and labour market - the level of unemployment in these communities could decrease because of the increase in the level of skills.
The newly developed under IGETADAPT project methodology for fast and effective Basic skills training will impact the target group through giving tools for successful adaptation of an adult learners to the specifics of labour market and social life. In this context the impact on the target group consists in decreasing the level of exclusion of adults from the labour market due to low achievements in learning ativities.
It is therefore very important to note that the impact of the project on a long term basis and if recognised for its value will be as follows:
- Increase in the level of skills of those isolated communities (rise in qualifications)
- Stopping the increase of the levels of exclusion
- Reduction of the level of unemployment in population categories
- Increase of the general feeling of well-being and quality of life.
Therefore we believe that the project will have a positive impact at local, national and European level by highlighting (to local, regional, national and European authorities) the issues and creating the tools to engage adults from these isolated communities in learning.
