The Comprehensive School of Sorso is one of the largest in Sardinia as far as the number of pupils is concerned.
It includes three school orders: the Scuola dell’Infanzia (Nursery School / Kindergarten / Pre-school) attended by children from three to five years old; the Scuola Primaria (Primary or Elementary School) from 6 to 10 years of age; the Scuola Media, also called 1st grade Secondary School (Middle or Junior High School) with pupils from 11 to 14.
The Institute consists of seven so called “plessi” – i.e. different school in their own sites - : three Scuola dell’Infanzia, two Scuola Primaria and a Scuola Secondaria. The last one is also characterized by the presence of a special course especially dedicated to musical studies.
The social and economic framework, especially in the last few years, has revealed many difficulties which, due to their complexity, require urgent and appropriate interventions.
Problems due to the economic crisis, lack of work, growing social unease (family frailty, crisis of values, discouraged young people, bullism) affect the school world with their negative consequences.
To hold all these deviances in check and improve school results the Institute unceasingly revises its Piano dell’Offerta Formativa (PTOF) or Formative Offer Plan giving prominence to all those areas of knowledge which better answer to the pupils’ needs. So the search for new teaching methods, the use of ICT, didactic laboratories, the development of activities like arts, theatre, music have promoted the development of knowledge and emotions and improved the school climate favouring the learning and teaching process.
In this context Erasmus Project+ proved to be really useful for the Institute growth. As a matter of fact, the scheduled mobility offered to our teachers gives them the opportunity to appreciate new ways of living and to meet colleagues from foreign countries acquiring new competences and exchanging experiences. Besides the project represents a new chance for a personal , cultural and even European growth!
Erasmus Project + involved seventeen teachers, all members of the three different orders of school above described. Some of them had Specific Educational Qualifications and taught the English language in the Primary School while others had an Elementary knowledge of it. Some teachers improved their CLIL methodology.
The experience realized through Erasmus Project + specifically favoured the acquisition and improvement of language abilities and competences and in certain cases the strengthening of the participants’ foreign language linguistic mastery.
In the training courses attended, teachers met colleagues from other countries with whom they explored operative teaching methods to be presented and realized in their own classes. These meetings and exchanges have at last given them the occasion to start up lasting teamwork and cooperation methods as well as reciprocal and continuous learning.
