IMTNIS - International Map Training Needs for the Information Society
The IMTNIS project will develop a distance-learning package for cartographic publishers for access via a dedicated website. The project directly builds upon two previously fundedLeonardo da Vinci projects (EPTNIS I and II) and focuses upon the need for transnational training in distribution and commercial skills in the cartographic industry, particularly amongst the project's central European partners. The project website will allow for a range of different learning styles to suit the needs of individual users, and will host a range of training modules focusing upon legal aspects of cartographic publishing; market research for SMEs; marketing and distribution for cartographic publishers. Once piloted, the project will explore European accreditation of the developed training modules through its academic partners and through the International Map Trade Association. The cartographic industry will be regularly informed with regard to project development, and its members' views sought regarding appropriate module development and application via the project website. The website will be tested on recruited publishers with regard to its success as a distance-learning package, and appropriate adaptations will be made. CD-Rom and paper-based training manuals will also be developed by the project based upon website content. Regular representation of the project at international book fares, along with leaflets, articles and press releases will ensure its high profile recognition in the publishing industry.
