The school, located in the outskirts of Burgos, is characterized by a predominantly lower-middle class young population. The school, with 120 teachers and 1,700 students , offers all levels of education except university . It has bilingual Sections in English in Primary Education (Science and Arts and Crafts ) and Secondary Education ( Social Sciences and Arts) . It has extensive experience in the development of European projects previous to Erasmus + (COMENIUS , LEONARDO and ERASMUS projects).
Following the European Development Plan , the school wants to meet a variety of needs :
a) Bilingual Section teachers: learn new teaching methods and tools; share best practices within the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology; consolidate its European dimension; enhance their English language proficiency.
b ) the institution : meet the challenge of developing language proficiency in English.
c ) families: respond to their concern about their children’s professional future.
d ) students : increase their levels of language proficiency to enhance their competitiveness; expand its European dimension to raise their professional development opportunities .
The project involves 10 teachers who teach in the bilingual sections. The profile is that of a young professional, accredited in English within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages requirements, with some work experience and who have demonstrated their professional competence. It responds to a qualified professional who wants to continue their linguistic and methodological training .
Selection will be made according to the criteria of fairness and transparency required in this type of projects and according to the participant profile indicated previously in the project.
The project implies a two-week training course. The activities planned within the course:
a) provide with practical and stimulating activities for English lessons.
b ) enable the methodological review and adapt and develop effective materials.
c ) deepen the theoretical and practical elements of CLIL methodology.
d ) develop participants’ personal confidence and language skills.
e) teach positive reinforcement and correction ways maintaining motivation.
f ) allow exploring techniques and activities to be inspired and inspire other students.
The training course methodology aims to present the CLIL methodology clearly running away from the more theoretical aspects and focusing on innovative activities and practice besides the resources provided by the participants. The course gives access to an exclusive forum for keeping in touch after the event, sharing materials and experiences and enhancing the development of linguistic competence . It Includes individualized tutorials to meet participants’ needs and interests in addition to one or two practice teaching sessions where to test new ideas.
The expected results from these teachers are:
a) knowing tools to motivate students in language learning
b ) Encouraging them to pursue a life-long learning attitude
c ) Sharing experiences and knowledge with other European colleagues
d ) Developing their language level and their awareness of the language learning and their ability to teach subjects in other languages
f ) Highlighting the convenience of CLIL methodology in curriculum development of non-linguistic subjects
g ) Linking the learning of a non-lingusitic subject to the foreign language itself
The project forsees an impact on :
a) students : developing their linguistic skills and improving their academic performance
b ) teachers: access to tools that motivate students to learn a foreing language; motivation for continuing professional development; exchange of experiences and knowledge; greater mastery of the target language and their ability to teach subjects in other languages ; discussion on specific education issues (CLIL ) .
c ) sending organization: the improvement of teachers’ professional skills and the increase in our students’ motivation for learning a modern language will result in an improvement of educational quality.
The impact of the project in each of the sections will be reflected in the indicators specified in it.
The project is to achieve a long term number of benefits :
a) Students : increasing their employability and their European dimension.
b ) teachers: increasing their professional competence and strengthening the benchmarking with other colleagues.
c ) the school: improving education quality and the satisfaction of their staff and families alike.
