Improving learning capacities and mental health of elder people

Many recent studies show that the fitness of mind could be preserved for longer and thedecline of memory be slower if people used their mind more frequently. In this sense, insome countries (like US and Japan) this subject has led the creation of new services - tohelp the elderly people to preserve the fitness of their mind. There are many peoplefrom the target group who would like and are willing to do a lot of things for preservingthe fitness of their mind and avoiding the decline of their memory.These people do not want to use the new knowledge collected by mind training for workor business, but to develop lifelong learning activities that keep their minds fit and alsotheir learning capacities.Within this context, this project aims at developing innovative training materialsaddressed to elder people (working or retired) in order to preserve the fitness of theirmind. The project execution will count on other additional benefits as it will provide thetarget group with new knowledge that can be used in their daily life and will improvetheir quality of life.The project objectives will include:• national and comparative analyses of the state of elderly citizens and learning in laterage• the compilation of best practices in the field of brain training (memory games,exercises, training, initiatives)• the production of web-based teaching materials• the production of a handbook on brain training for elderly people, as a theoreticalbasis to be used by trainers and experts• a final international conference to be held in Hungary.All these results will be produced with the contribution of a partnership composed ofrelevant specialists in the field of adult education, ICT applied to training, universityresearchers, doctors specialised in medicine and social researchers.
