Antonio Mendoza is a primary and infants school with 370 students and 36 people in our staff including specialists in different educational aspects and a psychological attention team.We have already been working in a project to work with the English language in everyday life with infants with the help of a language assistant and we have also started with another project for bilingual studies in primary.This course we have started teaching arts in English in primary 1 and 2 with our language language assistant and we have also a lesson a week taught with the help of our language assistant in primary 3 and 4.In primary 4,5 and 6 we teach half an hour more to reinforce the process of learning.With primary 5 and 6 we have another project going on which consists of working with crosscurricular subjects in English so that in every unit we have a trip in English to different museums and cultural centres in our town.Foreign languages are a central subject in our school and therefore we are very interested in working on this new project.This project consists of anticipating a second foreign language in primary 5 and 6: The German language.The reasons why we have decided this are the following:The secondary schools to which our students go after finishing in our school offer this subject and it is the one mostly chosen by them instead of the French language as it was up to now.There aren´t any other primary schools in our city where German is taught.We count with a teacher in our staff who has a B2 certificate of German language given by the Goëthe Institut in Berlin 2009.We are asking for this course so that the teacher can improve her fluency and the teaching methods.The chosen course is Primary school classroom skils.It will take place in Berlin starting August 15. It will last 15 days. Lessons will take place in the morning and early afternoons. This is a teaching development course for primary school language teachers focusing on techniques to implement teaching plans effectively. This course is designed to allow teachers to gain a deeper understanding of language techniques and classroom management. Teachers will develop innovative ways to introduce concepts to our students and practise a new language while encouraging learner independence.the fact of having in our school the possibility to offer German as a second foreign language means that it would be the only public primary school centre in our city to offer this subject and that would be a benefit for our school community as well as an enrichment for our students, who in the majority of cases, choose German as the second foreign language once they go to the secondary schools in our area.Later we would like to participate in a Comenius project which could serve us as a tool to communicate in German with other students from other Eureopean countries as well as getting to know the German culture.We will also use the school website to publish the news in our school offer.We will hold meetings with families to inform them about the new subject being taught at school and the advantages their sons and daughters will get from that.We will use the Government of Cantabria educational website to get to know everybody interested and we will also use newspapers, radios... to publish the news.
