PROJECT
FINISHED
We are members of the university student organisations, studying psychology. During our academic year we learn a lot through the formal education system, which limits the amount of informal and non-formal learning. The project will in fact seek to focus on a learning by doing approach. Thanks to this project two youth groups will strengthen cooperation by collaborating on a youth exchange project, focusing on Identity.
The objectives of this project are:
- Enhance our knowledge through informal learning in an intercultural environment;
- Enhance knowledge on the national identity and the European citizenship;
- Increase awareness on the need to have a healthy lifestyle and practice sports;
- Promoting entrepreneurial skills; and
- Bringing together different cultures and promote inclusion of people with different cultural background.
The youth exchange will take place between Sunday 27th July and 3rd August whereby 40 students between the age of eighteen and twenty five, twenty from each organisation, will participate during the seven day activity. A number of different methodologies will be used mainly: workshops, visits, hands-on experiences, outreach and presentations by the youths themselves. The aim of utilising different methodologies is to make sure that everyone is actively involved at all stages of the project. We also included different activities, such as visits to businesses promoting local branding, visits to Valletta and Hagar Qim, gastronomy session, cultural nights, night hike and treasure hunt, an outreach and also visit to various sports organisations, all linked with the theme of identity. To explore more we will also have a number of workshops on culture, self motivation, childhood, philosophy and psychology and European citizenship.
At the end of each day, we will have an evaluation session to make sure that every individual is taking the utmost of this opportunity. Our main aim is to bring two groups of students, studying the same subject, focusing on the same theme but having a different cultural background. This will give different spectrums to the same theme. All participating youths will learn more on identity and understanding the field of psychology outside the lecture rooms, through informal learning and hands-on activities. Also these young people will also acquire other soft skills such as management, communication skills, organisational skills and time management. We will also develop a stronger partnership between the two organisations and the youths from both organsiations. This will be the foundation for possible future projects on a similar or larger scale. A certificate of participation and a Youthpass Certificate will be issued at the end of the proejct to all participants.
