Intercultural youth meetings with educative objectives are one of the main activities European Commission
is promoting in order to strengthen European Citizenship, while creating common values and generating spaces
for exchange and the establishment of cooperative partnerships.
Generally, these meetings resulted being an effective and inclusive tool for cohesion among youngsters from different countries in Europe and, when conducted with standard levels of quality, to learn about new topics and explore the attitudes of youngsters in the countries involved.
These international activities require, though, a delicate and precise understanding of the ICL processes among
the youngsters that are involved in organizing them. Consequently, it is a common need among youth organization to prepare and make their members ready to lead and implement complex ICL activities that bring participants outside of their comfort zone, confront their understanding of the reality and question their attitudes. It is at this point where some of the activities might fail due to the lack of competences of the members, blocking potential learning processes while providing a safe and friendly environment in which participants develop all their potential. Therefore, it ends lowing the effectiveness of the activity and the overall learning outcomes, both as a group and as individuals.
This Training Course aims to contribute to this development of competences among the members of the partner organizations.
“ICL it” Training Course will focus in a double learning dimension. First, the Training wants to provide space to understand the basic elements of culture, its dimensions and the complexity of intercultural environments,
as well as the challenges (misunderstandings, false debates, tensions, conflicts) that could arise due to the particularities of the setting and that are usually endangering the whole Activity outcomes. Second, to provide participants with tools to work in these settings, by understanding group dynamics, leadership skills and other specificities of international youth work.
The aim of the Training Course is to increase youngsters’ understanding of culture and their capacities to lead multicultural activities with educational programs.
More precisely, the objectives of the Training Course are:
• To promote international youth meetings as an effective tool for youth empowerment;
• To strengthen the competences of youth leaders in international work and work in multicultural settings;
• To prepare youth leaders for educational tasks in international youth encounters;
• To plan common international youth encounters for young people with fewer opportunities.
The methodological approach of the Training Course is based on non-formal education and its principles. Workshops, discussions, presentations, theater, role-plays and theoretical inputs will be used.
The Training Course will take place in Georgia, from 21st to 29th of March 2015, and will include 26 participants from 13 countries from EU and EECA region.
