PROJECT
FINISHED
“I follow dreams - you can join me anytime" was a 10 day training for trainers from 10 EU and Partner countries that took place in Berlin in autumn 2014. 40 motivated young people from Germany, Palestine, Egypt, Macedonia, Poland, Slovenia, Armenia, Italy, Israel and Georgia took part. Every profile included previous activities in volunteering and communication skills. Each participant cooperated for a long term period in social and/or art projects and was used to collaborate in groups. Relevant was to know the Loesje method or having taken part in one of the Loesje text writing workshops. Enthusiasm and facing a new experience in a foreign language completes the profile.
The project was based on the School of Freedom method which is developed in the Loesje network, to organize activities in a group in a way that enables exchange of knowledge and skills. It inspires by exchange of practices and strengthens the capabilities and self-confidence of the participants as well as share responsibilities between them. Here everyone was a participant and everyone was a workshop giver! This means that each participant suggests, as well as wishes for workshops, lectures and other activities. As far as ideas go, the sky is the limit - and why even the sky? You don’t have to be an expert on a topic to lead a workshop about it; you can try out new things or join others and prepare something you are curios about.
Based on the wishes and offers, the program was made by a smaller group. Also the balance among the workshop givers and how many workshops each person was giving was always put in consideration. During the four days, in each slot (morning and afternoon) there was three workshops happening simultaneously. The participants were able to choose based on their interest and type of activity, where they wanted to take part. Each participant therefore either gives or takes part in two different workshops per day.
There was also Film of Freedom, where the participants filmed and through that documented the School of Freedom and process of the project.
During the training a Daily A4 (daily newspaper) was produced; a method/workshops handbook as documentation/evaluation. The Daily A4 contained updates about what has been going on the last day, but also works as a strong team-building tool. It also contains quotes and rumors about what is going on at the training, and is normally the most popular and cherished piece of the day.
Objectives:
-To train young people, Loesje trainers in the International network in the "School of Freedom" method, as well as creative writing, providing them with know-how and tools needed for further activities.
- To thereby facilitate personal growth, skills sharing and innovative non-formal educational methods to young international trainers
-To share good practices between organizations in the field of non-formal education, democratization and religious tolerance and reflect on important issues regarding young people.
-To bring together motivated young people willing to act and focus their energy, motivation and skills towards democratization and freedom of expression.
-To present innovative tools for expression and active participation to activists in partner countries.
-To disseminate the collective youth voice, in order to raise awareness of the political, social, and economical situation in the partner regions.
Results: -A documentary (Film of Freedom)
- A handbook of workshops/methods
- 5 Loesje posters in English were created through the Loesje methods of creative text writing, final editing and layout.
- Short film clips showing activities of the project.
This project has a great impact on the participants, who get to challenge themselves on a deep level, share their knowledge with others and improve their social and soft skills through living together with others for the 10 days of the project, making program, cooking, cleaning and having free time together. Through the evaluations made with the participants we get an impression about the impact on the participants. Many of them mark this experience as a life changing event in their lives. The enthusiasm for making a follow-up of this project was very large, so during the project we decided to make a follow-up and apply for it at the Italian National Agency with the Italian partner as main applicant. This was unfortunately turned down, so we reapplied with Jugend für Europa and it was approved. This project inspired many people, and they took this inspiration back to their organisations and communities and passed on the special spirit. This project and its follow-up has proven to be the favourite projects among our partner organisations. It has a long-term impact both on the participants (regarding personal growth, democratization and religious tolerance) and on their sending organisations (in addition to what previously mentioned also sharing of the innovative tools).
