FINISHED
The project "I am MOVING in my NATURE- Sport and Activities in Environment" was an action of exchange, which was performed by the 14-17 year-old German youth of the Child and Youth Centre Alfred-Delp-Haus in Brilon and Portuguese youth of the cooperating partner organization "Associaçᾶo Juventude de Gente Sem Tabaco" from the Azores.
In form of two activities 1.) the preliminary planning meeting (from October 13th to October 16th, 2014 on the Azores) and 2.) the actually main activity phase (from March 25th to April 1st, 2015 in Germany, Brilon) was an encounter between the total of 24 participants in the two partner organizations. The participants were 10 Azorean teenagers and 2 Azorean teamers and 10 German teenagers and 2 German teamers.
The participating youth is considered as a one, in many areas of life, disadvantaged target group.
Through various social, economic and familial problems, different cultural backgrounds, the inhabit of rural and decentralized areas and a risky addictive behaviour they require a special access form to open up new ways of promoting and breaking down barriers.
In the form of informal and non-formal learning this project offered young people the opportunity of personally, socially and professionally developing, equiring new skills and expanding already existing skills.
According to the title and the intention "I am MOVING in my NATURE" and also to the three main topics 1) youth, 2) environment/ climate change and 3) health and wellbeing the main aim of the Youth Encounter was to discuss youth-specific topics and needs, to deal with their own nature but also with the environment of other fellow human beings and ultimately to discover their own strengths through sporting activities, to go to its limits and to collect especially experiences in group dynamics and community.
In addition to the preparatory planning visit, mainly the specific activity phase of 7 days serves, through various activities, workshops , learnings, modules, lectures, meetings, etc. to activate, participativate and involve young people in the project processes so that they can acquire important skills through the encounter with peers of another nation:
- Sporty and health-promoting skills ( e.g. endurance, peak experiences, physical fitness, body sensation, healthy nutrition)
- Social and communication skills/ social dialogue through peer learning (e.g. community experiences, group dynamics, team spirit, fairness, rules, agreements, compromise, consideration, togetherness, friendship)
- Nature and environment-related knowledge (e.g. appreciation of nature given, protection of the environment)
- intercultural competence (e.g. interest in other cultures, international relations, encounters across borders, understanding of diversity and otherness, learning from others, create awareness for national and international problems and issues, the reduction of racism, intolerance, discrimination and inequality)
- promotion of democratic principles
- Linguistic skills (e.g. dealing with the native language, learning or intensifing other foreign languages)
- Self-determination and self-fortification
- Creativity, flexibility and self-initiative
- Acquisition of communication and information technologies (e.g. computer skills, use of media)
- Project Management (active participation in a youth project )
This project was a valuable and personal formative experience for all the involved persons from which they can sustain a lifetime. To feel as an important part of a group, to reflect oneself and to integrate one's own strengths, to develop sensitivity to the needs of others, to understand social, linguistic and cultural differences between people with different backgrounds, to have the desire to meet and learn from each other, to experience oneself as an active, responsible and mature EU citizen, to engage for their wishes and for needs of young people in the future and to participate in other related projects and initiatives, are important and desirable effects caused by the project. To transfer the acquired skills into everyday reality life as a foundation for a life-long learning and a better future, dealing with personal, educational, professional requirements, was the goal of this project.
