HUGS (How to Up-Grade your Safety) on the Web
Start date: Jun 17, 2014, End date: Jan 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The general objective of the project is preventing computer addiction of young people through increasing their knowledge about that kind of addiction, teaching them how to recognize it and promoting alternatives for their free time activities. A youth exchange will be organized in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. A total number of 36 young people from 6 countries - Greece, Poland, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine and Bulgaria - will participate. The Bulgarian Foundation "Centre for European Initiatives" will act as a coordinating and hosting organization. For a period of 9 days young people aged from 17 to 25 will exchange information and practices, discuss on cases, take part in role games, enrich their knowledge about foreign cultures and will, at the same time, get more knowledge about internet addiction and will learn how to recognize and to use a variety of prevention methods. The project will provoke the participants to make a parallel between the virtual world and real life through creative tasks and the "learning-by-doing" approach. Some attractive terms are used to title the project as well as to name the thematic assignments in the exchange program (HUGS gaming, HUGS chat, HUGS in love) - in this way the creativity and imagination of young people will be stimulated. At least 200 local youngsters will participate in several events included in the project program. A brochure named HUGS tips, giving advice on preventing the computer addiction, will be a direct product of the exchange. The participants will design it themselves and will translate it in 6 languages. A minimum of 3000 copies will be printed - 500 in each language. They will be distributed to the target groups of each organization after the end of the project.
