How to Educate Learners with Peer-mentoring
End date: Oct 1, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project is called How to Educate Learners with Peer-mentoring (HELP).The content includes the definition of peer-mentoring, different trends in adult basic education, different cultures or methods in peer-mentoring and staff and learner exchanges. This project will focus on the development of competencies in peer-mentoring. It will increase support of adult teachers/trainers, who are working with adult basic skills learners to acquire and learn peer-mentoring skills. These skills can be then used by the learners to empower their peers which will also impact positively on family learning and their local community.Peer-mentoring will be used as the delivery mechanism for course content based on the following themes: adult literacy, second language, family learning, financial numeracy, empowerment of learners, active citizenship, entrepreneurship and digital competence. The project will promote the exchanges of ideas and good practice, independent and autonomous learning and create effective teaching and learning resources in peer-mentoring such as giving the learners an opportunity for continuous professional and personal development.Because of the nature of this project, it is vital that learners are involved throughout this project and that they are seen as equal partners. This project will work with the marginalised, hard to reach and black and minority ethnic and refugee communities and unemployed people who are receiving benefits or social integration income. The project will lead to some assessment and advisory tools. Testimonies and examples of good practice will be produced and gather on a common website.
