The technical secondary college HTL Leoben offers three branches, which are metallurgy and environmental engineering, logistics and materials flow management and technology of raw materials. The formation at this college is unique in Austria and of worldwide interest. The possibility of a cultural exchange and cooperation in the field of education and formation with Spain is therefore very important for the HTL Leoben and its students. The main objectives of the job-shadowing in Spain were the initial approaches for future projects with the twin school in Spain, getting to know the Spanish educational system, informing about the Austrian educational system with special focus on vocational schools and education, the transfer and exchange of languages and culture as well as exchanging and gaining insights in new methods for teaching foreign languages with special focus on implementing new technologies in the classroom. Ms Elisabeth Langmann teaches English and Spanish at higher secondary schools and is also qualified to teach German as a foreign language. She has been selected for the job-shadowing in Spain for the school term 2015/16 by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education and Women's Affairs, department for Austrian schools abroad and mobility programmes [IA/4]. The main activities in this job-shadowing programme were the cooperation with the German teachers at the twin secondary school in Spain, informing about Austrian language and culture, attending lessons of various subjects of interest to gain insight in different methods of teaching as well as initiating approaches for further projects with the twin school and students´ exchanges. From this job-shadowing programme we expect a lively exchange of knowledge in the field of languages, culture as well as new methods for teaching foreign languages. We hope that teachers of our school and the twin school can benefit from this job-shadowing programme and implement the gained knowledge in their teaching. We also look forward to gaining an insight in the Spanish educational system and in return informing about the Austrian educational system with special focus on vocational schools and education. Finally we strive for project cooperation with our twin school in Spain for future projects and to promote cultural and language exchange of the students of both schools as well as motivate our students to do more internships abroad.
