Horvát - magyar természetvédelmi tábor
Numerous sources of natural wealth and a rich, attention worthy biodiversity are typical for the cross-border area of Nagykanizsa and Cakovec; however, the poorly developed awareness of its population regarding the value of their own environment threatens the sustainable development of the region. Based on the long-term relationships between the cities and municipalities on both sides of the border, this project created the conditions for the exchange of good experiences. Thanks to funds granted under this program, the city has renewed the children´s camp along the Csanakaza (Rowing) Lake and organized four thematic camping weeks for environmental thematic protection for children from Croatia and Hungary. Achievements: Within the project, the following was carried out: restoration of 10 huts and sanitary facility for the entire camp; through games, 200 pupils from Croatia and Hungary learned the values of their environment and how to protect them; partnership developed between the Sándor Pötefy Elementary School and the I. Elementary school Cakovec, the two schools involved in the project; the two cities signed the twinning agreement in April 2007.
