Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Nov 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "Ring Dancing in the Break" meets the innovative approaches of dancing and theatre with the educational system which almost has no examples of creativity. That would suggest a model for encouraging the moving activeness of young people and thus preventing school violence. The activities took place in 8 educational institutions on the territories of Stara Zagora and Maglizh municipalities and involved more than 2000 kids and youngsters including minority groups (Roma and Turkish), poor families, disabled youngsters and living in remote rural areas. At least 50% of the participants were disadvantaged youngsters - living in rural areas. A hosting organization from Bulgaria and a sending one from Portugal were involved in the project. Five volunteers participated in the activities (1 for a long-term project and 4 - for short-term). The volunteers were trained on: Bulgarian folk dancing, forum theatre, presentation skills and project management. The project provided also an intensive Bulgarian language course. The main activities of the volunteers were as follows: organizing dancing, theatre and handicrafts workshops as well as organizing the regional campaign "Ring Dancing in the Break". The campaign was held in cooperation will local schools, where there was Bulgarian folklore music in the long break and the students were invited to join the "volunteer" ring dance. The campain made the participants know the two cultures (Bulgarian and Portuguese) and it was also an attractive model of tolerance and prevention of aggressiveness. Other important elements of the project were initiatives promoting volunteering, such as: info days, discussion forums, thematic intercultural events - cuisine exhibitions, souvenirs workshops, etc.
