The project "Honeycomb of Participation in National Level Youth Organizations" was developed to asses and support the internal democracy and participation in youth organizations. It was addressing one of the key issues in national-level youth organizing: the aspect of real effective and meaningful participation, quality management and outreach of young people.
The project was lasting from January to December 2015 (entire year) and it involved 4 partners (CID Macedonia, CIM Horyzonty Poland, TOG Turkey and Out-of-the-box Belgium).
The of the project were the following:
- To develop a common understanding of the concepts related to democratic leadership in national level youth organizations such as: democracy, participation and leadership, civil society, human rights and citizenship
- To raise participants’ awareness and provide space to reflect upon the value of youth organizations/structures - their role and impact as democratic leaders within society
- To develop the participants’ ability to relate the work of their organizations with youth policy and provide them with up-to-date research (study) on national level youth organizations management
- To develop participants’ understanding and knowledge of various forms of youth participation through youth organisations and their applicability for the management of national level youth organizations
- To define and further develop leadership and civic competencies as well as relevant management skills (conflict management, advocacy, motivation, shared leadership, decision making, empowerment, strategic planning, resource management)
- To support participants in analysing and further developing their organisation internal processes and mechanisms in order to strengthen their work as national level youth organizations
The project aimed to enable young people actively involved in the running of youth structures to develop their attitudes, improve their skills and receive additional information and knowledge in order to manage youth organizations (programme, units or boards) in a democratic, efficient and effective manner on national level. Ultimately these improvements supported and resulted in an increase of the quality of the activities these organizations run, in their sustainability and in their contribution to youth policy bodies and structures. Set around a big need of the youth organizations working at a national level – which is to make their work effective and to provide space for real and meaningful participation, the project implemented research, set of trainings, internships and developed a training kit; enabling organizations to exchange their experiences and expertise in the field of youth participation.
The project research the state of internal democracy in national level youth organisations involving around 200 youth organisations from Macedonia, Belgium, Turkey and Poland. Based on the findings, we developed a set of useful tools and educational methods that could support the democratic development of youth organisations and their internal organisational management more inclusive. The project had 2 transnational meetings, 3 multiplier events with gathered representatives of the local and national organisations and 3 learning mobility activities. In addition the project made 2 publications, State of Play: Democracy in National Level Youth Organisations and Training kit ”Organisational Management for Youth Entities on National Level”, which were promoted among youth organizations and online on honeycomb.cid.mk
