Start date: Dec 1, 2014, End date: Nov 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The main topic of the project is the prevention of the early dropping out, and helping the underprivilaged students, how we can be in step with other students or how they can be taken back to the right way. In our school there is a special program, in which such students can take part, who can’t go to a primary school or who are elder than 15 years old and they has taken only the 6th grade at school. This program is called Híd, and was introduced in 2013. The aim of the education system is to help these students to have a profession and to join the school system. Most of these students suffer from learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia. Learning disabilities can cause persistent failure, which is one of the reasons, why students do not want to go to school. The other problem is the family, which is very poor, the children have to work, if they want to go anywhere, but in some cases if they want to eat. This program is on the one hand about the development of competences and on the other hand about cooperative work. The other important scene of education is the prison for juveniles, where our school has a class and our teachers teach the juvenile deliquencies. This form of education is unique in Hungary and we can say in Europe, too, because other schools have no class in a prison. Our aim at the class in the prison, that after discharging the young offenders go to school again and learn a profession. Foreign studies, that part of the education is the personality development, to acquire such techniques, which include effective answers, cognitive behavioral techniques, tackle mechanisms and conflict handling styles. It is very important to synchronize the groups at school and the group in the prison, and we see that there are some connections between the two phenomena (early dropping-out and criminalistics). According to statistics the early school leavers commit crime more often and in larger proportion. According to the studies about early dropping-out the most effective method for the prevention the training for the teachers are, to tackle with the problems. Unfortunately, in Hungary there have been positive examples so far, but in other European countries very good ones can be found, which can be used in Hungary, too. That’s why we write this project and try to take part in different job-shadowing programmes. During planning this project we read articles and studies in the topic and contact youth centres and prisons in Europe. In the next step we try to have an agreement about the details, about the facilities and the duration of job-shadowing programmes. On the other hand we need to have a better connection with special institutions, which deal with the problems of children. If it works, we should organize programmes at our school which can prevent dropping-out. As a result the students can have more positive self-image. The teachers will be more motivated, there methods will be better and more extensive, they will understand their students and their problems better. A continuous advisor system can be formed, which includes consultative assistance and career building not only for students but also for teachers. There will be a better connection between parents and teachers and according to the statistics the number of dropping- out will decrease.
