The Farming School of Valabre offers vocational and technological training in the fields of nature protection and agronomy. The possible diplomas include the Higher National Diploma. To pass the exam, the official curriculum requires a training period of about ten weeks, in an institution of one’s choice. The school’s project which is now being reviewed, focuses on increasing our students’ mobility. The priority is to develop their self-sufficiency and geographical flexibility. It allows them to share their knowledge and to enhance their level for a better attraction for potential bosses and a better adaptability on the current job market (open mind, curiosity, skills in languages, self-sufficiency). This helps our institution to reach the objectives of modernization and internationalization of our training in two-year higher education. This also allows us to take part to the building of the European Citizenship. This is why we try to motivate our students in HND to carry out a work placement abroad in a vocational organization. As we have at our disposal two Erasmus + scholarships for Higher Education, we have chosen one student in each of our two classes of HND : one female first-year student in HND with an emphasis on Nature Protection, and one male first-year student in HND with an emphasis on Crop Production. Our student in Nature Conservation chose to leave for Finland, in Nurmijarvi, to work with the Lupus Laetus association, which works on the preservation of the Russian wolf, considered as harmful, on the “Ecology of a pack of wolves” subject. She then took part to the collection of visible indications on the presence of this big predator and its preys, through monitoring and GPS observation, analysis of excrements and hairs and the determination of its food diet. The training master found her skilled and motivated. She has much improved her skills in observation, Excel classification, and data processing to set up efficient management and stewardship measures, and mapping with GPS/qGIS. Without mentioning her improved performance in the English language that she used every day, her self-sufficiency and sense of responsibility in the organization of her work timetable, as well as her ability to live and work in a team. Our student in Crop Production chose to go to Germany to carry out his training period at the Bonn university in the department of research in organic farming. Our two students will thus be able to rely on their very positive experiences, for the writing of a report that they will present in front of a jury made of professionals and teachers -a capital part of their final assessment- for passing their exams at the end of the second year.
