The Regional Institute of Health and Social Education (IRFSS) is an organism from the French Red Cross association (CRF) that trains competent professionals in a dynamic of employability which
wants to be lasting and adapted.
The enrolment of the French Red Cross in the international dimension is closely linked to its history and fixed in its founding principles.
The IRFSS Rhône-Alpes is present in the Rhône-Alpes territory through its 4 educational institutes in Lyon, Saint-Etienne, Valence and Grenoble.
Each year, we award a diploma to:
- 420 nursing students,
- 40 social work students,
- 330 nursing auxiliary students,
- 34 pediatric auxiliary nurse students,
- 30 medical-psychological assistant student,
- 64 ambulance officer student.
One of the priority of our IRFSS Rhône-Alpes is to promote the European mobility of both students and professionals, within the framework of the “ERASMUS +” programs and develop a policy for
welcoming European learners and professionals, by creating partnerships with universities, colleges of higher education and workplaces.
For the academic year 2015-2016, the mobility concerns 23 nursing students and 5 staff members (mobility for training).
For students, it’s a three months’ mobility, during their final year of training (6th semester) towards partner universities (21 partners in 9 countries: Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Finland, Italy,
Sweden, Norway and Turkey).
The program allows students to:
- acquire additional knowledge by approaching nursing cares through an opening and a different angle, in a context of international exchanges and training,
- understand the impact of interculturality in nursing cares,
- develop a cultural skill,
- validate, through this experience, adaptation, integration, communication and autonomy skills,
- promote professional contacts abroad by enriching its curriculum,
- co-build a professional European identity.
The realized activities (non-exhaustive) are:
For the students:
- attend nursing courses in various care areas, participating in theoretical and practical workshops, and performing acts and care activities,
- participate in seminars, conferences, discussions, cultural and educational activities, as any student of the host country.
For the professionals:
- exchange with partners’ counterparts in order to understand the environment, the functioning and the organization, visit the clinical placements, discover the sphere of competence of the nurse in
the country, participate in theoretical and practical learning activities, develop a common project.
The experience proved to be:
For the students:
- very positive with the development of self-confidence, adaptability, communication and improving language skills, but also the enhancement of capacity for autonomy, openness, creativity and
reflection.
For the professionals:
- enriching with enhanced confidence between the partners and a better understanding and communication for a network development.
The evaluation of the program by students and staff allows us to affirm the professional scope of this experience over the long term.
